Open days
With over 50,000 visitors to campus over three days Open days at Leeds is always a busy time in the calendar. With this year's site we wanted to start over and look at what our visitors demanded and provide it to them. Previous year's sites were fine but lacked dynamism and had a fairly flat look and feel. We wanted to create a fun, exciting but ultimately easy to use and informative website.
Working against the clock I built the site from templates developed by colleagues in the Jadu content management system (the same one used for the corporate website).
I also worked closely as a technical liaison with a design agency on a PHP / MySQL based interactive day planner. This had over 2,000 sign-ups.
Over a three month period the website received over 80,000 unique visitors. We also received well over 10,000 visitors signing up for email newsletters and updates. I also designed the email campaigns that went out from the University and UCAS.
Finally, I launched a Twitter feed and Flickr site to help create a sense of community. These were both well received by our target audience.
